Cristiano Ronaldo scores 450th goal in
Europe’s top leagues
There is a forever
ongoing battle between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to try to figure out
which of them is best and takes home the GOAT title at the end of the day and
of their careers. However, the only thing we do know for sure is that we are privileged,
as football fans, to be able to live in the same era as these two guys, who
keep making history every time they step out on the field for a new game.
Cristiano Ronaldo just
made history in week 2 of the new Serie A season in Italy, by becoming the
first player in football history to reach the mark of 450 goals in the top 5
leagues in Europe, which are Spain’s La Liga, English Premier League, Italian
Serie A, German Bundesliga and French Ligue 1.
Out of these,
Cristiano Ronaldo has played in three, with Manchester United in the Premier
League, where he scored 84 goals while coached by Sir Alex Ferguson. With Real
Madrid in La Liga, which is where he grew into a world legend with
astronomic figures, with a total of 311 goals, becoming the team’s historical
leader, by far. And now after 2 seasons and 2 games into his third, he has
already scored a total of 55 goals for Juventus, where he already won 2 league
trophies as well.
In fact, Ronaldo is
also the only player in football history who has managed to score at least 50
goals in each of those 3 competitions, which is also a great achievement.
Will he take on a new
adventure and give one of the other 2 big leagues a try? Much has been said and
rumored, he has been linked to Bayern München several times, and more recently
to PSG in France, where he could have met with Neymar, Mbappe and former
teammates in Real Madrid, Di Maria and Keylor Navas, but in the end he decided
to stay in Juventus and try to go for a Champions League title, which is his
ultimate goal in Italy. Judging by his age, 35, it’s hard to believe that he
will try a new top league, but we can’t rule it out. What many have said
though, and sounds more like a real possibility,is that the Portuguese
superstar could end his career playing in the comfort of the MLS,
where he would get paid quite well even in 2 or 3 more years, when he’s closer
to 40.
What’s next in Cristiano Ronaldo’s milestone
achievements?
The answer to this is
easy, Cristiano is just 16 goals shy of the ultimate record in football.
Brazilian superstar Pele scored a total of 757 official senior career goals,
taking club and national team in account. Ronaldo has scored 742 so far, and
this means that, if he keeps his usual level this season, he will be able to
break this record soon. Just 15 more goals and he will tie Pele in the top
spot, but one more than that and he will sit alone in a throne that
no one ever thought would be taken.
Do you think he will
be able to become the world’s best scorer ever? He probably will, but remember,
he’s not alone in this race.
